OBTC 2008 Registration and Housing Information
Conference Registration is Closed
We have reached our upper limit of
300 registered attendees (the most we can reasonably accommodate at all-attendee events during the conference), and we cannot accept any more registrations for the OBTC 2008 Conference.
If you have additional questions please contact the conference organizers at
obtc2008@obts.org
The OBTC: Teaching Conference for Management Educators is held annually at a college or university campus somewhere in North America. In order to minimize conference, housing, and food costs for attendees, as well as promote a strong community spirit, we offer an all inclusive conference fee that includes:
conference registration
lodging in Babson College residence halls (single or double-occupancy)
all meals during the conference, including breakfast (Thurs, Fri, Sat), lunch (Thurs, Fri, Sat) and dinner (Wed, Thurs, Fri)
all social events and excursions
a one-year membership to the OBTS Teaching Society for Management Educators (which includes a one year subscription to the Journal of Management Education, starting the following calendar year).
Attendees can also choose to register as a commuter and then make their own housing arrangements either in Babson's Executive Conference Center (we were only able to block a VERY limited number of rooms), a nearby hotel, or commute from home. The commuter fee covers everything described above for the "all inclusive" fee EXCEPT for lodging in college residence halls.

Refund / Cancellation Policy for Conference Related Fees
For registrants who are not on the Conference Program (as presenters or facilitators), OBTS provides a 100% refund of conference related fees (conference registration fee and any additional fees for conference registration options) for cancellations received at least 15 days before the start of the conference. No refunds are offered for cancellations made after this date.
For registrants who are on the Conference Program (as presenters or facilitators), OBTS provides a 100% refund of conference related fees (conference registration fee and any additional fees for conference registration options) for cancellations received at least 45 days before the start of the conference. No refunds are offered for Program Participants after this date.
Conference Housing Options
Traditionally, over 80% of conference attendees stay in on-campus dormitory housing. It’s much cheaper than staying off-campus, and it helps build a vibrant conference community. Many attendees come from schools with limited travel budgets (or pay for the conference from personal funds), so OBTC continues to offer on-campus housing as the primary option to minimize attendee costs. Here are the various housing options.
1. Babson College Apartment-Style Residence Hall with Single-Occupancy Rooms (Map Hill) - Details
Map Hill is Babson’s newest residence hall (opened in 2006) and contains 115 single-occupancy rooms. Each room is organized into apartment-style suites with 4 single-occupancy rooms plus a kitchen, living room, and a shared bathroom (sorry, but we have no rooms with private bathrooms). In other words, you will be sharing a large bathroom with 3 other people (of the same gender unless otherwise requested). Each single-occupancy room contains a single bed, pillow, closet, desk, and chair. For the conference we will also be renting linen (included in full registration), which includes bedsheets, pillowcase, blanket, towel, and washcloth. Map Hill Residence Hall is about a 3 minute walk to Olin Hall (main conference site), a 2 minute walk to Trim Dining Hall, and a 1 minute walk to ample parking. There is a small hill between Map Hill Residence Hall and the rest of campus.
Given that we will likely have over 300 people attend this conference, it is likely that single-occupancy rooms in Map Hill will sell out quickly . During the registration process you can indicate if you have any apartment-mate preferences.
2. Babson College Dormatory-Style Residence Hall (Coleman) with Single and Double-Occupancy Rooms - Details
Coleman Hall is a more traditional dormitory-style residence hall that contains about 100 double-occupancy rooms, organized into clusters of 6-9 rooms around a common lounge, study, and shared, gender-specific bathrooms (sorry, but we have no rooms with private bathrooms). If you choose a single-occupancy option in Coleman Hall, we will put you by yourself in a room. If you choose double-occupancy, you will share a room with another person of the same gender (unless otherwise requested). In Coleman Hall you will also share a large bathroom with several other people. Each double-occupancy room contains two single beds, pillows, desks, closets, and chairs. For the conference we will also be renting linen (included in full registration), which includes bedsheets, pillowcase, blanket, towel, and washcloth. Coleman Hall is about a 4 minute walk to Olin Hall (main conference site), a 3 minute walk to Trim Dining Hall, and a 1 minute walk to ample parking. There is a small hill between Coleman Hall and the rest of campus.
During the registration process you can indicate if you have any roommate preferences.
3. Babson Executive Education Center - Details
We were only able to block a very, very limited number of hotel rooms in Babson's Executive Conference Center , a world-class hotel and conference facility on the Babson campus. The conference center is about a 5 minute walk from Olin Hall (main conference site), and 7 minutes to Trim Dining Hall. Reserved rooms contain two double beds and cost $192 a night (including tax and breakfast in the Executive Conference Center). Parking is right next to the conference center. The room rate is actually pretty good for business-quality hotel rooms in the greater Boston area.
Attendees choosing this option will need to 1) make hotel reservations directly with the Babson Executive Conference Center by emailing hotel reservationist Rachael Cavanagh at Rachael.cavanagh@babson.edu or by calling her at 781-239-5816 during normal East Coast business hours once conference registration is open and then 2) register for the conference as a commuter. Since the Babson Executive Conference Center almost exclusively caters to corporate clients, they normally don’t take many hotel reservations and thus don’t staff it 24/7. Your best option is to email Rachael, who will send you a reservation form that you can complete and return. Please do not use the Babson Conference Center’s on-line reservation system – it does not work well for our particular conference. When reserving a room please indicate that you are part of the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society.
It is likely these rooms will sell out quickly . Once they are sold out, you are welcome to call Rachael at 781-239-5816 and ask to be put on a waiting list. If additional rooms become available, they will call you to see if you are still interested.
Why aren’t we holding the entire conference at the Babson Executive Conference Center, and have all attendees stay there? The primary reason is cost – it would likely double or triple the conference fees. June is also the busiest month for Babson Executive Conference Center, and the Center primarily caters to large corporate clients who pay much higher room, meal, and conference room rates. We have reserved as many rooms as we could.
4. Nearby Hotels and Motels - Details
Unfortunately, there are very few hotels really close to Babson College, and most are relatively expensive (especially those nearer to Boston in suburbs like Newton or Needham). As you might expect, hotel rooms in the Boston area are not cheap. We have blocked a limited number of rooms at the closest hotel (Sheraton Needham Hotel) for $159 per night (plus tax). Your best bet for really budget housing is further west of Boston in either Natick or Framingham. Rates below are not guaranteed, and were taken from hotel reservation websites.
We don’t guarantee the quality of any of these hotels, and suggest you check travel websites like www.tripadvisor.com , www.travelocity.com , or www.orbitz.com for guest ratings and comments.
