| Staying Positive in These Turbulent Times? |
Kim Cameron
William Russell Kelly Professor of Management and Organizations
University of Michigan |
| Friday, 7 November 2008, 2:00-3:00 p.m. EST |
Please join us online for the fourth in our continuing OBTS Webinar Series to be held on Friday, 7 November, starting at 2:00 p.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m. EST.
This initiative is designed to connect prominent management scholars with colleagues in a technology-mediated format that can serve many purposes. Not only will we learn more about these scholars’ work and have the opportunity to discuss issues, we also may make new connections among our colleagues that can lead to future study groups, research initiatives and other professional development activities. Continuing conversations certainly also can be part of our OBTC 2009 at The College of Charleston.
In planning the series, we thought that not only learning more about what people do would be important but also how they got to where they are and the challenges they see for the future. Certainly, we are living and working in turbulent times. How do we handle ourselves and help our students are important questions. We are very pleased that Kim Cameron will share his story and work with us. If there ever was a time for finding positive energy in what we do, this is it. Kim’s story is that of scholar whose life work offers us a rich resource of ideas and approaches for teaching, learning, and practice. An author of over 100 articles and ten books, the latest of which is Positive Leadership: Strategies for Extraordinary Performance, Kim also was one of the co-founders of the Center of Positive Organizational Scholarship at the University of Michigan. The Center has created a new field of study in organizational sciences, focused on the organizational dynamics leading to the development of human strength, producing resilience and restoration, fostering vitality, and cultivating extraordinary individual and organizational performance. This work was recognized as one of the 20 highest impact ideas in 2004 by the Harvard Business Review. (More information about the Center can be found at www.bus.umich.edu/pos.)
Our webinar conversation will explore the ways in which positive organizational scholarship can be applied in the classroom, respond to the current depressing economic circumstances, and help management educators address issues positively. While positivity has been accused of being syrupy, saccharine sweet, and substance-free, our discussion will focus on evidence that positive practices produce superior performance even in these extremely difficult times.
Details - The webinar will be moderated by David Fearon and held on Friday, 7 November, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. EST.
